How many metres, and how many storeys
Total run is the starting point. Second storey work needs different access, which is the single biggest difference between two otherwise similar jobs.
Profile and material
Standard coloured steel spouting sits at one end and heavier or specialist profiles at the other. Coastal sites need a coating grade that will not give up early.
Number of corners, outlets and downpipes
A long straight run is quick. A roof with lots of returns, valleys and corners takes more time and more parts.
The state of the fascia behind it
If the fascia is rotten, new spouting has nothing sound to fix to. We check it before quoting so this does not turn up as a surprise mid-job.
Whether the stormwater connection is sound
Downpipes discharging into a blocked or broken stormwater line will keep causing problems. If we find that, we will tell you rather than connect to it.

How long does it take to replace spouting on a house?
A standard single storey home is usually done in a day, including taking the old run off and connecting the new downpipes. Two storey work, or a roof with a lot of corners and returns, can run into a second day.
My gutters overflow in heavy rain. Are they blocked or too small?
Either, and it is worth knowing which. If it only overflows after a dry spell it is usually debris. If it overflows in every serious downpour, the spouting or the downpipes are probably undersized for the roof area feeding them, and clearing them will not fix it.
Can you match the colour to my roof?
Yes. Spouting comes in the same colour range as roofing steel, so we can match it to the roof, the fascia or the trim. We confirm the colour on the quote so there are no surprises when it goes up.
Do I need gutter guard?
Under trees, often yes. Out in the open, usually not, and it can trap grit and make things worse. We will look at what is actually landing on your roof and give you a straight answer rather than adding it to every quote.
What is the difference between spouting and guttering?
Nothing. Spouting is what most people in New Zealand call it, guttering is the term you see on the product, and they both mean the channel along the roof edge that carries water to the downpipes.
